Sorry for the group email! In the end I thought this might be the best way to reach all of you and keep a bit of "rumor control".
This Wednesday afternoon I was diagnosed with Breast Cancer. Yes, two very scary words but like many Breast Cancer survivors and not so lucky Breast Cancer victims my story is my own and I plan on being one of the survivors. The doctors also support this conclusion. My story is short, last Friday I had an ultrasound for a lump I found and it was biopsied on the spot. It is a slow growing early stage cancer. October 8th, I will have a lumpectomy and it will follow with 6 weeks of radiation. Assuming that my profile remains positive after pathology, that should be it. Really!
If you ever find yourself worried think of me this way; After getting the shocking news on Wednesday, I called in sick, took Thursday morning to climb my favorite mountain, Camels Hump. It was a gorgeous Vermont fall day and the hike reminded me that I am strong, healthy and ready to take on anything! I had more tears on the way up than on the way down and I that is what I expect of this next challenge.
As my friends and family I am asking for positive support and no drama. I promise to keep you informed of our progress but do not expect this to disrupt too much of our everyday lives. I feel incredibly lucky to be given such a positive prognoses but most of all I am so thankful to be surrounded by friends and family that love and support our family! Please just keep doing what you have always done for me/us share a hug, a smile, your love and our family is all set!
